In Northern Italy one of the most delicate crafts has survived both industrialization and globalization. The hand-built violin is a huge success for the city of Cremona, where past and present comes together in a lucrative niche business. Nordea Invest magazine travelled to the small town to find out how 30 pieces of wood can be worth millions. We met the 32-year-old Israeli violin maker Yael Rosenblum.

Yael Rosenblum lægger vægten i og tvinger stemmejernet gennem træet, så høvlspånerne flyver i alle retninger. De krøller sig sammen som orme, før de lander. Hun holder træstykket op foran sig, puster støvet væk og lader fingrene glide hen over overfladen. Hun mærker efter, hvad næste skridt skal være. Bevægelserne skifter mellem det brutale og blide, når Yael Rosenblum udøver sit håndværk. ”For mig er violinen kunst på flere niveauer,” fortæller den israelskfødte violinbygger. ”De enkelte dele er bare stykker af træ. Sadlen, sneglen, hagestøtten og så videre, det er omkring 30 stykker håndværk udført med stor præcision. Men når det hele er samlet til et instrument, bliver de til noget større. Et kunstværk – der samtidig rummer potentiale til at udtrykke endnu et kunstværk i form af musik.
